Stopped at Hodag
Hodag is the name of the creek and 'draw' that packer Larry has just gone through in this photo. It's one of the most dangerous sections of the trail because it's so steep on both sides and it's filled with dead, large stemmed trees that fall across the path whenever they darn well please. That means, a person in the lead has to get off with their crosscut saw and cut it out while everyone behind twiddles their thumbs. And, in the case of a packer, his pack animals fidget and can get tangled.
