Casper
Casper is tied up near the inlet of Big Salmon Lake while his fishermen is out catching trout. There are some huge downed old pines around this area, lush grass, and thick shrubs. Funny story...not long after this photo was taken, Janis and I thought it might be nice to untie the horses and let them graze for a bit. Well, while they were 'grazing' we put on our shorts and waded a bit in the lake. After a little while (which might have been a longer while, it's easy to lose track of time there!), Janis mentioned how she didn't see the horses anymore. I threw my cowboy boots on with my shorts and went to take a look. They were missing alright...so I followed their tracks. Quickly picking up my pace I ran back up the trail we had rode in on...they were making the 3 mile trek back to camp! After jogging for about 10 minutes I saw them up ahead and they were about to be stopped by two random riders that were heading my direction. The trail was too steep and narrow for the horses to go around, so they were trapped with me in the rear and those riders in the front. Well, as I ran up and caught the horses in my cowboy boots and shorts, tied them together for the walk back to the inlet, and scolded them for their naughtiness...I thanked the riders for their excellent timing. One was a cowboy from another outfit and I'm pretty sure he was thinking that I was a total whack job (which probably isn't far from the truth ;) and the other was...an Asian tourist that couldn't stop laughing at me and the situation!! It was all kind of surreal. I got them back and all the NETOC fishermen got a good chuckle out of the story... AND, we didn't let the horses free to graze at the inlet again unless we were standing there babysitting them. The end.
